Food recalls and drug mix-ups today.
Walmart Bettergoods frozen pasta — possible Listeria
Gias Foods recalled two lots of Bettergoods Authentic Italian Lemon Alfredo Fettuccine, sold nationwide at Walmart, because routine state testing indicated possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. (U.S. Food and Drug Administration)
The frozen 22-ounce yellow bags have UPC 194346442706, lot numbers L6079C or L6080C, and expiration dates September 19 or September 20, 2027. No illnesses have been reported. Consumers should not eat affected packages and should return them for a refund. Because the expiration dates run into 2027, this is a good “check your freezer” item. (U.S. Food and Drug Administration)
Wholesome Pantry applesauce — now formally posted by FDA
FDA today formally posted the Wholesome Pantry Organic Unsweetened Apple Sauce recall we flagged last week. The 23-ounce jars, UPC 04119005677, best-by June 16, 2027, contain elevated levels of patulin, a mold toxin. They were sold through ShopRite, Price Rite Marketplace, The Fresh Grocer, Gourmet Garage and Fairway Market. No illnesses have been reported. (U.S. Food and Drug Administration)
ICU Medical saline bags — possible potassium-chloride mix-up. Otsuka ICU Medical is recalling one lot of 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection, USP, 100 mL because an outer saline wrapper may actually contain a bag of highly concentrated potassium chloride. FDA says accidental administration can cause severe neuromuscular problems, dangerous heart rhythms, cardiac arrest and death. The affected saline lot is 1042188, NDC 0990-7984-23, expiration October 31, 2027. The product was distributed nationwide. No adverse events have been reported. Hospitals and other users are being told to quarantine it immediately. (U.S. Food and Drug Administration)
Niwali “tejocote” supplements are actually toxic yellow oleander. FDA testing found that Niwali Tejocote Capsules and Tejocote Pieces appear to contain yellow oleander rather than tejocote. Yellow oleander contains cardiac glycosides and can cause vomiting, dizziness, abnormal heart rhythms and potentially fatal cardiovascular toxicity. The products were sold nationwide through eBay and Everymarket. Only five units are known to have been sold, but the seller cannot identify all buyers, so FDA is urging anyone with the products to stop using them immediately. (U.S. Food and Drug Administration)
🚩 Par Pharmaceutical IV sedative — particles can block blood vessels. Two lots of Dexmedetomidine HCl in 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection, 400 mcg/100 mL are being recalled after cellulose or stopper material was found in the solution. FDA says injecting particulate matter can cause pulmonary emboli, blocked blood vessels, tissue death, organ damage and potentially life-threatening complications. Lots 87558 and 88802 were distributed nationwide to wholesalers and hospitals. No adverse events have been reported. (U.S. Food and Drug Administration)
No new major recalls at CPSC, NHTSA or USDA.
